A Still Life (2 min, HD, no audio)
This video forms part of my ongoing engagement with the paradoxical relationship between stillness and time. I have drawn from many sources: Giorgio Morandi: “Nothing is more abstract than reality...matter exists of course, but has no intrinsic meaning of its own...only we can know that a cup is a cup…” Gwyn Hanssen Pigott : "...a reminder of our own vulnerability, and beauty and possibility of transformation and repose". Aldo Rossi: “...the stasis of those timeless miracles...tables set for eternity...things which are only themselves…” Salvatore Quasimodo: “Ognuno sta solo sul cuor della terra, trafitto da un raggio di sole: ed è subito sera.” ("We each stand alone on the heart of the earth, transfixed by a ray of sun: and so soon it is evening" - my translation) |
Cities and Memory (1:30 min, HD, no audio)
I made this video as part of my ongoing engagement with the hidden layers of urban places. This one explores ideas about collective memory.
For a few moments the veil lifts, the usual pattern fades, the billboard becomes a screen for the projection of layered collective memories of events which have happened here. (In this case footage from the Brisbane Writers Festival which is held here annually). “Real time” is de-saturated and becomes erratic outside the frame of remembered time. for more about this video see here
